Covering All the Bases

Posted on Jun 16th, 2007 by Quill : Bard Quill
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 16, 2007:

For a year's worth of lessons in one thing, I would like to spend it focused on learning something that would benefit my mind, body, and spirit. To that end I think I would choose a year of some kind of movement classes - perhaps dance, tai chi, yoga, or a martial art of some kind.

It might not be a good idea to dedicate myself to the idea of a year on something I've never tried and still might not like (don't know that I could really put up with hours of yoga for a whole year, nor the music that goes with hip hop or jazz dancing) - on the other hand, it could be very fulfilling to take the plunge into the unknown.

For a year, 365 days, of continuous but varied lessons, I would learn (or relearn) the basics of everything I think contributes to making me a well rounded person. Things like Etiquette, decorum and courtly manners, fashion, art (painting and the like), music (there are several instruments I'd like to learn, and once I know the essentials I can teach myself the rest), cooking, formal dance, that sort of thing.

And there are the things they say can't be taught, no matter what...

Hi there… you describe Nia here…it is a movement form that uses dance arts, martial arts, and healings arts. It is a mind~body~spirit practice. Have you ever heard of it? I teach in Wisconsin and there are thousands of us all over the world. Check out the website:

What if there’s a class right in your area? I think you’d love it based on what you describe here! Best to you! Love and Light…Jessica
